Less downtime = better return on investment
Downtime is expensive. Money is lost, reputations are damaged.
Online retailers cannot sell their products and they lose revenues. SaaS and other technology providers fail to meet SLA commitments, possibly even causing downtime for their customers. Financial firms’ customers can’t trade.
According to Gartner, most companies reported downtime costs between $100,000 and $540,000 per hour. For some (44%) it can cost as much as $1 million to $5 million. Bottom line? ROI is compromised.
Stopping stock market outages
In the case of a large international stock exchange, it was critical that downtime is kept to an absolute minimum - because if there is an outage it can be catastrophic to customers and to global markets. So, it was imperative that the exchange could spot and rectify any technology issues before they “become catastrophic,” said Peter W, a senior analyst at the exchange.
The exchange was using some lower-level monitoring to be sure certain systems are running, but it needed to gain better visibility into some of the applications it was running.
